About Us

Resigned 2 Resilient (R2R) exists to move adolescent men from resigned to resilient through the hope of the Gospel.

We do this through exploring pastoral counseling interventions that facilitate meaning-making.

R2R was created by Sam Scott. Sam is an Area Director for Young Life in Charleston, West Virginia. He is a Doctor of Ministry candidate at Liberty University and is researching the impact of pastoral counseling on male adolescents. This website was created as a micro-project for his thesis portfolio.

The name “Resigned 2 Resilient”was chosen intentionally. In early 2023, Sam served on a task force for the Eastern Division of Young Life called “Where Are The Men?

The task force explored why every measurable statistic in Young Life was skewed 60% female, 40% male. Members of the task force held interviews, conducted research, and combed through gender-specific student and staff data from throughout Young Life’s history.

Among other more Young Life-specific findings, the task force’s efforts revealed that adolescent males are resigned; they are reclused from real world relationships and subsequently suffer from addiction-related behavior that breeds in their isolation. Thus, adolescent males need to be guided toward resilience; they must be able to face life’s challenges with a resilience that is rooted in Gospel hope and supported by pastoral counseling interventions. This website houses resources to this end.
